1. Take in a movie. Some movies have showings specifically for
children with special needs, which can help your child feel more
comfortable and confident during a movie outing. Check your local
theater's website for details on upcoming sensory-friendly screenings.
2.
Go sledding. Even if it's not snowing, you can find sleds and
inflatable tubes to ride at indoor ice rinks, or visit an outdoor
playground with plenty of slides.
3. Visit the
aquarium or museum. Many museums are offering sensory-friendly days,
where they limit certain sights and sounds that may be overwhelming for
children with special needs or on the autism spectrum, such as flashing
lights and loud noises. Check your local museums' websites to see what
they offer!
4. Spend time in nature: Most kids
love animals, so a trip to a pet store or zoo is sure to put smiles on
everyone's faces! And if you have time, take a walk around the
neighborhood and see how many types of birds you can spot! If you're
feeling more adventurous, go camping!
5. Get creative: Do something artsy with your child! Create a scavenger hunt for them.
